NICOLE HENRY

AUTHOR

Hello! My name is Nicole Henry and I am Canadian born and raised, but I married an American that I met at Bible college in Chicago, so I have spent most of my adult life south of the 49th parallel. Education as a profession was never on my radar, but post graduation, when I needed a job and a small Christian private school needed a middle school humanities teacher, I discovered my calling. That was about 25 years ago!

Through those years I have taught across the grade spectrum, from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade, and in all kinds of settings, from full-time traditional Christian school, to full-time classical, from individual homeschool to homeschool community, and even university model, before once again landing full-time at a classical school. Somehow along the way I earned my Masters in Theology, which deepened my love for history and the arts and widened my appreciation for the integration of all subjects with God as the central Author of all.

Invictus happened as unexpectedly as my teaching career, and only because of the vision of my friend and business partner, Myriam, who is the ying to my yang and the creative genius behind this project. Together we are attempting to create the curriculum we wished we had had in the early years, and the curriculum we believe will be a benefit to not only homeschooling families and communities, but also learning pods, micro-schools, university model schools, and even full-time classical schools.

It’s been a labor of love for the past five years, and the vision of a curriculum that strives to bring a beautiful harmony to the classical, neoclassical, and Charlotte Mason philosophy is big, but I am confident that the Lord has put us on this path and that He will continue to shine the light as we move forward. Above all else we seek to honor Him and bring glory to His name through this project, and I am so thankful for the opportunity He has afforded me to work with Myriam and the rest of the Invictus team to make this dream a reality

MYRIAM GRIMARD

CREATIVE DIRECTOR

My name is Myriam and I am a French Canadian mom of six who is passionate about God, family, adoption, music, and serving the church community. Through the years, Bible school, church planting with my husband, leading worship in our church, practicing hospitality, adoption, and homeschooling have shaped and prepared me for the incredible faith journey that Invictus Classical Press has been.

I was not always a homeschooler! The idea of homeschooling came about at a very difficult time in my life. I had experienced church division, lost precious friends, and had just adopted 3 girls from the public system ages 4, 5, and 9. I entered the world of homeschoolers with no experience (at least that’s what I thought), exhausted, and feeling like a deer in headlights.

How could I start homeschooling? Despite my state, I knew God was calling me. It was not clear for a while, but when my church friend (a beautiful, wise, and seasoned homeschooling mom) invited me to join her homeschool community, I knew God was leading me there. The group was small but mighty! I was mentored, loved, and cared for. The classical method gave me a clear path of education, my love of learning was renewed, and God slowly started to heal my heart.

It was in this beloved community that Nicole and I met. She was an experienced educator in the classical method that God used to support me through my fears and innumerable questions, as well as a tutor for my grade 11 son. I followed in her footsteps as she directed our small community school, modeled with grace and truth.

As time went by, and I progressed in the classical method, I found that my emotionally bruised children were struggling and needed a more relational, tactile, hands on approach, which drew me to the principles of Charlotte Mason. While I still appreciated the classical approach because it offered structure and a clear scope, I felt torn and in need of a solution.

As Nicole and I debated and studied Charlotte Mason’s pedagogy, a dream started to form: a grammar level curriculum that would unite a classical and Charlotte Mason philosophy in a common place. An ambitious five-year project with God as our fuel, Nicole as the author, and me as Creative Content Director, was born.

So here we are, trusting God with every step we take as we embark on this giant leap of faith to create a beautiful and true curriculum within the trivium-based method and informed by Charlotte Mason, with the goal of accomplishing the formation of whole persons made in God’s image who can learn, reason, and persuade people to the enduring truths of God.

Join us in the Invictus adventure!

Since 2020, the Invictus Classical Press project has become my life. Our home education journey started back in 2016 with 3 kids in Ukraine. At that time, homeschooling wasn't even legalized in my country. When God led me to the Invictus group on Facebook, I gasped at the epic approach to integrating subjects, tools, studies, arts, and sciences...

I felt the urgent need of having this curriculum in Ukraine. I prayed and dared to contact Nicole and Myriam with a humble request to allow adaptation into Ukrainian and Russian languages. Amazingly, they agreed! I can't thank them enough for this decision that changed my life.

This curriculum is a tremendous feast of love, care, and life, created for the children's sake, well, even more - for mothers' sake. With the Invictus detailed guides, moms can save tons of time and effort now!

God gives willingness and action. I believe He willed to ignite this blazing fire in me, willing to help families nurture children's pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness. It kicks me up early in the morning or keeps me up late into the night, adapting it for Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking families.

In 2022, like lots of Ukrainian professionals, I felt helpless and lost... With millions of Ukrainian families, we fled from the war abroad. Thankful letters from mothers got me back on track with continuing adaptation. After the first months of shock, the scattered team of In contributors resumed working in France, Ukraine, Netherlands, Bulgaria...

Now, Invictus is working in France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, and yes - in Ukraine, too... It even made an amazing leap back across the Atlantic Ocean to families in the USA, now in the adapted version! Parents' messages full of gratitude from thousands of miles away, trust and prayers of Nicole and Myriam became my rocket fuel for this mission. And I believe in this mission without regard to war and all crises.

Invictus equips children's minds with new knowledge in its own unique way. Invictus resources help develop a sense of beauty, refine the skills of attention, observation and contemplation.

With this curriculum, I have enjoyed the process and the results in our community and in other families.

Charlotte Mason said the curriculum should be rich and generous, like a feast for children served with great love. I sense the Invictus curriculum like a feastful journey (can you imagine that?)

And I rejoice for this journey ahead of your family. The journey, full of wonder, restful joy of learning - and fun!

May God bless you on this path with Invictus Classical Press.
